SELF Workout in the Park Giveaway

It’s that time of year again!

What time of year? You may ask.

Oh right,  it’s the time of year to get simultaneously sweaty, pretty, and well-fed in a park.

I go to the Self Workout in the Park almost every year. It combines a few of my favorite things: exercise (instruction provided by my favorite chain of gyms: Crunch), beauty and fashion swag, and snacks.

This year the magic will by Dolvett Quince (the super-hot trainer from The Biggest Loser—Swoon!) and Louis Van Amstel (dance coach on Dancing with the Stars—I don’t watch Dancing with the Stars so I have no idea who this is). Tickets are on-sale right now for $20 at www.SELFWorkoutinthePark.com.

Now, I don’t plug just anything on my blog—but I LOVE the workout in the park, and highly recommend hitting it up if you live near one of the three locations hosting one this year:

San Francisco (Little Marina Green): May 5, 2012
New York (Rumsey Playfield, Central Park): May 12, 2012
Chicago (Butler Field, Grant Park): June 2, 2012

To make it even more awesome, SELF will be donating a portion of proceeds from the event to participating charities: Cancer and Careers and The Conservation Fund.

AND they’re donating a super awesome Fit Kit to one lucky Kim Challenge reader. The Fit Kit includes ear buds, an official WIP water bottle, fitness DVDs, month-long membership to CRUNCH and all sorts of freebees from event sponsors like: Garnier, Calvin Klein, La Roche-Posay, and lucy.

To win all you need to do is head to the comments section and tell me your favorite way to keep fit in the summer months. I’ll be choosing a winner by random number generator on Friday at noon (EST)!

  1. Hi Kim- I would love to win the Fit Kit! This year my summer fitness plan will be long, hilly walks with my new baby due June 30. I am determined to be back in my normal shape by the fall!

  2. My favorite way to keep fit in the summer is running and doing outdoor activities like swimming, hiking and biking! I’d love to win this Fit Kit!

  3. I don’t get to the gym as much as I’d like, but I use resistance bands, and some other resistance devices I have. I have an old imitation total gym which is actually fun. I also do exercise videos.

Louis VanAmstel doesn’t dance with the stars anymore, but he does most of the choreography for the professional dancers.

My *new* resolution for fitness this summer is GARDENING! I’m trying to go superlocal (big plans for all those precious seedlings I’ve been husbanding in various sunny spots around the house) and learn how to garden along the way. I’ll be building a couple raised beds, hauling dirt and compost (and starting a compost bin). I love flowers, sure, but the idea of actually growing my dinner? Wow, that’ll be cool. (*note, yes, I’ve grown herbs & tomatoes on various apartment windowsills/tinsy balconies for years…so I’m not going from 0-100, but still*). I’ve heard that gardening does burn a ton of calories!

  6. In the summer I stay fit with early morning or evening walks with the dog and anything I can do in air conditioning such as fitness videos, an indoor class, the elliptical etc… I also really enjoy swimming but without a pool of my own it’s kind of a hassle. Walking and playing with Frankie at dog beach is also really fun in the summer. This summer I’d also like to try and learn to surf.

  7. My favorite way to work out in the summer is to go hiking and walking in nature. I hate exercising in itself, but if I can see glorious and lovely sights while I am at it, the sweat seems worth it! Working out in a park sounds awesome!

  8. My favorite way to get fit in the summer is to go hiking in the woods and swimming in the ice cold ocean. I wish I was going to be in NYC for this, it would be so much fun!

  9. I keep up with my usual gym workouts during the summer, but add a few extra fun hikes and maybe a weekend bike ride or two. I can’t wait for long summer hikes!

I love hiking during the cooler part of the day. I’ll probably also spend a lot more time at the gym and with Jillian videos at home.

My favorite way to keep fit and active during the Summer, is to go swimming, and running a lot! I love running, but the only con to running in the hot and burning sun of Texas is that I tan WAY TOO EASILY, so by the time I get back inside, I have tan lines from my shorts/capris, and tank top. D: It really is a horrible sight! Hahaha!
And of course, you can’t forget the workout videos like Insanity, and youtube fitness gurus! :D

  12. I love to ride my bike along the Katy Trail in the summer (heck, anytime). We don’t have a Crunch fitness place here in Columbia, MO. If I would be lucky enough to win, that part of the prize could go to someone from a larger city.

I really love kayaking when the weather is warm, which is something I only discovered a few years ago after always being wary of it due to being a little water phobic, haha. That and horseback riding. :)

    Thank you hosting this giveaway!

This is awesome! I plan to get fit by backpacking and hiking in one of my favorite places, Shenandoah national park. I live in Richmond, Virginia, where it tends to be 100+ degrees in the summer months, but the mountains are a great escape from the heat, and their beauty is inspiring. Good luck everyone!

  15. I plan to visit Jamie G (above) and let her take me to all her favorite keep-fit places–roller skating! biking in the park! hiking in Shenandoah! Summertime is here–let’s do this!

Looks like a cool giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity.

  16. Kim,

I love your blog! I just started jogging and loving it! My plan is to work on my pace. Right now, I am jogging a 15 min mile. I am hoping to be at a 10 min mile by the end of summer. I love Self and this swagg bag looks like a lot of fun.

Best wishes. I can’t wait to read your book.
