Walk it Out
You win some, you lose some. Â I lost some.
Stamina that is.
Tonight was my running class. Â Somehow going in tonight I just knew it was not going to be stellar. Â The course was simple a 1.5 mile run to our starting point, then two timed mile intervals, and another mile back to “home base.” Â After the first 2.5 miles I was ordered up to a faster pacing group. Â I was already really tired and breathing super hard. Â The increased speed turned out to be too much for me, and before I finished my last interval I pulled over to the side and decided to walk back.
I felt a bit defeated by my lack of follow through, but sometimes you just have to listen to your body. Â I’ll make up the mileage on Thursday, and I’m running in a 5K this weekend. Â I have ample time to prove myself to myself.
In other news, today’s menu is total proof that I have some weird eating tastes. Â Oatmeal and sour cream really is good, you should try it. Â Also, apparently other people don’t eat wee fistfuls of radishes as snacks. Â I just learned that. Â I love radishes.
Breakfast
Oatmeal with low fat sour cream
Pineapple
Green tea
Lunch
Turkey chili with avocado
Snack
The folks at Zing bars sent me a sample pack to try out!
They’re all natural, gluten and animal product free. Â I was totally psyched to give them a shot.
I decided to start my sampling spree with the chocolate coconut bar, because chocolate and coconut are pretty much made for one another.
The verdict: Good. Â Totally like a Mounds Bar without the guilt. Â There was a slightly weird crunchiness that I couldn’t place, but it didn’t effect the taste. Â I’m looking forward to trying more.
Dinner
To make myself feel better post running fail I made my favorite udon noodle soup with shrimp and bok choy.

Ok I’m drooling. Are the noodles from trader joe’s? Care to share the recipe? I’m all soup all the time dreaming of fall. The zing bar looks great too. As for the running I found I have good days and bad days. Stay positive and push yourself when the body allows.

Hi Sarah, I buy pre-cooked Udon Noodles. They’re in single serve packages (three servings per pack) in the organic refrigerated section of my grocery store. I make them a lot like I would make ramen from the packet. I boil 2 cups of water, loosen the noodles then ad a spice packet (miso broth, but I’ve nixed the broth packet and used chicken and seafood broth instead of water before). I add a dash of soy sauce and hot sauce to the liquid, then shrimp and bok choy. I cover the pot and let it all cook together for a few minutes.
Voila! I’m totally addicted to this stuff.

How very strange. Just this week I have been also snacking on whole, plain radishes at work, which I thought was a healthy and completely normal thing to do, but apparently not. My boss was complaining that the stench of the radishes was too much for her so I had to put them away. The stench?? They taste fantastically piquant. I’m all for snacking on good ol’ plain radishes.

Hey Kim,
Alma from Zing here, see you got the package and started with my personal favorite flavor. Just wanted to shout out and give ya’ll a coupon if you want to try them out for a discount. Use KRM20 starting Monday afternoon (9/13-9/27) and it will expire two weeks later. Hope you enjoy the other flavors and thanks for snacking
