Today is day two of my BluePrint Cleanse. I hopped on the scale this morning (I know, that’s anti New Year Resolution, but a girl needs data to report to the blogosphere). I’m down 3lbs since yesterday.

Don’t get too excited and run out to Whole Foods and pick up $10 bottles of juice, it’s all water and it will come back on as soon as I eat food again.

My question to myself on a regular basis is—what am I eating that’s making me so bloated all the time?

This mass exodus of water weight has me intent to find out.

Salt is probably one factor, but I think I’m going to use this little experiment to find the culprit or culprits in my diet that make me feel so darn slushy. I don’t eat a lot of dairy, although I’ve been trying to up my Greek yogurt intake lately, so I’m not entirely convinced it’s a dairy thing. My guess is, and has been for a while, gluten—I don’t think I do too well with gluten. I’m also curious about carrageenan. Carrageen is a food emulsifier that comes from seaweed, it’s present in a lot of vegetarian and vegan foods, because it works well as a non-animal-derived binding agent. Studies have shown that carrageenan causes inflammation, although I’ve been skeptical of those studies for a while now because everything causes inflammation and seaweed is a lot better for you than a binding agent created in a lab somewhere. My defensive nature may also be thanks to the fact that my favorite brand of almond milk (that I have like a million boxes of right now) includes carrageenan. Do I get rid of my unsweetened chocolate almond milk? I don’t know. I’m torn. I love that stuff but I’ve got a wedding coming up.  Hmmm.

I’ll deal with that dilemma another day. Today, I’m on day two of my cleanse.

I woke up feeling “deflated.” Not in an emotional sense, more like I was a balloon someone popped. I also experienced more real hunger during the day, but the pangs were quick to subside, which I found interesting.

It was kind of like my body was like: I NEED FOOD SO BAD RIGHT NOW…but I can wait if you’re busy.

All I can say is, I don’t trust my body. I’m totally out of whack. Girl, either you’re hungry or your not; you’ve got to let me know. Maybe day three will clear things up. 

Other side effects: By 3PM I was pretty much cooked, my brain that is. I do a lot of writing on a daily basis: I write articles for work, I write books at home, I write on my blog, and by 3PM I was pretty much ready to give up language as a skill set. Napping, now napping is a skill I can get behind. 

I also noticed, that the juices were rougher going down today than yesterday.  I’d like to think that if I were deserted on an island somewhere I’d be totally cool with eating whatever, but sometimes my mouth just won’t let certain foods happen.  I definitely had to fight to get that last green juice of the day down. 

Feeling good, but missing food…and I still think green juice is gross.
