I’m really, really excited about this December and not just because it’s my birthday month. Here’s why: a couple of weeks ago I ended a very poorly fit job. I had anticipated working until the end of the year, but it became increasingly evident as time went by that I valued my sanity and self-respect more than I valued the balance in my bank account.
I took a chance. I quit.
The John Burroughs quote , “Leap and the net will appear” echoing in my inner monologue all the while.
Within a couple of hours I had two job interviews scheduled, two new freelance assignments, and in a matter of days two job offers.
I start my new job, as an editor, on Monday. I’m really excited about the work I’ll be doing; working on both books and magazines, writing for the Web and dabbling a bit on the production end of television segments.
After years of trying to balance freelance writing, acting, and a “real” job, it’s nice to finally have writing and editing be my real job.
An added bonus to my excitement is that my new office will be right around the corner from my gym, which means I’ll hopefully be able to snag a quick lunchtime gym break into my schedule…maybe not the first week.
So, what are my December resolutions?
- My main focus is to establish a routine. Obviously I want to be AH-MAZING at the work I do, but I also want to find my rhythms in regard to going to the gym, and working on my own writing projects
- Additionally, my dietary goal is to incorporate all of the awesomeness that was last month’s Nutribullet detox (i.e. Lean protein, lots of veggies, limited complex carbs, no sugar) minus the act of drinking my vegetables.
I’m a big fan of fresh starts, and this one feels like a a great way to jumpstart the new year. I’ll be putting all my energy into rocking this great new opportunity.
