As many of you know, at least those of you who have been reading The Kim Challenge for a while now, I am incredibly passionate about the charities I support. Before I worked as a writer full-time, I worked in the non-profit arena, raising money primarily for health organizations.
Well, I don’t sit in a cube writing grant proposals or helping prepare fundraising events anymore, but I still do everything I can to keep that spirit alive in my day to day life.
I’ve been trying to convince The Fella that our registry should be a list of charities, but now that we’re seeing how much a wedding costs…well, we’re not as down on gifts anymore.
So, what’s this post about?
Glad you asked.
I am participating in the New Orleans Rock and Roll Half Marathon in February. I’m really excited, if not completely intimidated. I’m racing for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. This is a cause that means a lot to me, and not only do the proceeds of my fundraising go to LLS, but much of the research supported by this organization go on to treat other forms of cancer.
Cancer sucks and I want to it end…so I’m raffling off a brand new Kindle Fire HD (Retail value $139).
You see, I want to raise money to cure cancer, and there’s a huge part of me that likes to give away things—this seemed like a good way to do both.
You can win this spiffy new Kindle for as little as $5.00, or you can up your chances by buying multiple entries. A donation of $25 will get you 6 entries, $50 will get you 15 entries. Plus, you know, even if you don’t win you’ll be doing something really great to help those battling cancer…and you’ll get a tax deduction to boot!
How will this work?
You: Make a donation to my Team-in-Training fundraising page (Link: http://pages.teamintraining.org/nyc/mardigra14/candocanyu). Then email me at kim(at)thekimchallenge.com to let me know.
I: Will confirm your donation on my page and enter your name and number of entries into an Excel spreadsheet in numerical order, then on Wednesday, November 27th (The day we all get out the elastic waistband pants for Turkey Day). I’ll use the random number generator to choose a winner and announce who the lucky e-Reader is.
We: Feel really good about ourselves because we’re curing cancer.
Easy. Peasy. Techno Savvy-. And Do-good-y all in one shot. What could be better than that!
PS-This post is not sponsored by Team in Training or Amazon. I purchased the above device on my own because I like you and I like charity.
PPS-If you could re-blog, Tweet or FB this I’d be super appreciative. I’d love to get the word out about this great cause.
