You know what I love? My life right now.

It’s hard to believe a little over a month ago I was breaking out in hives and crying in my cubicle—life has a pretty interesting way of working out the way it’s supposed to.

There has been a lot going on in my professional life lately. I’m a wee bit superstitious, so I’m not going to discuss all of it for the whole wide internet to read, but even if some of these projects don’t pan out I know I’m headed in the right direction. For instance, last week I was recommended for a position at one of my favorite fitness magazines. I went in for my interview today and was offered the job on the spot. The job is freelance and part-time (which means I can still juggle multiple projects and get a full night’s sleep), and a great learning experience in regard to new technology and magazine production. Will I be writing long editorial pieces, no, but I’ll be writing blurbs and quizzes, and working in the right field, for an amazing publishing company. It’s lower hourly rate than I usually charge for freelance work—there’s definitely some compromise on my end, but I’m really excited. They even seemed a little surprised that I took it, the editor said, “I’m just worried that something really amazing is going to come along for you and you’re going to leave.”

I was thinking something really amazing had just happened. Perspective.

My goal for this phase of my life is to appreciate it and learn as much as I can, to work as hard as I can on strengthening my professional network, honing my skills, finishing up my book proposals, and only doing things that feel good and make me happy (which means dropping another client from my roster). Maybe, just maybe, if we just do whatever it is that really feels right, it is right.
