Confession time: I am in a fitness funk.
I have skipped running class for two weeks straight! This is a combination of four things:
- It has been either frigid and raining continuously on running class nights for the last few weeks or I have had pertinent life appointments (such as meetings with exterminators or paranoia fueled cleaning sprees) to deal with;
- Since the weather turned my asthma has reared it’s ugly head and makes me feel like a complete spazzola-meets-old-guy-with-emphysema;
- I’m doing P90X and bygolly shouldn’t that be enough?
- The combinations of 1-3 have made me trepidatious about re-joining my running class ranks.
Now, as I said, I’m doing P90x so I am exercising. BUT you may remember from my last round of this DVD system, I really hate the cardio sections. I like the strength training, but I am absolutely loathsome of Tony Horton’s Plyometric and bizarre attempts at Yoga (I will concede that the Kenpo DVD is okay).
The hatred of said cardio and yoga days makes me…how do I put this gently: avoid doing my workout at all costs because I hate it and that’s an hour+ of my life I’ll never get back.
Right. Okay, there I said it. So, running is something I enjoy but thanks to the fact that I have inferior lung function come cool weather it’s hard for me to do during the fall/winter months. I like the strength training I’m currently doing but I hate everything about jumping up and down in my apartment pretending to shoot imaginary basketballs and strum imaginary guitars.
I’m in a rut. I want to make this system work for me, which means I may have to do what I did last time I did P90X: supplement with cardio I actually like or risk falling off the wagon.
My running class is scheduled through December 16th. I’ve already paid for it. I’m trying to psyche myself into not quitting when the
breathing going gets hard.
Oh, right…but I did go to running class tonight. Afeared as I was and it was a ton of fun! We did centipede drills all night. Luckily it was a warm night and I took precautions (otherwise known as my inhaler) and all was well with my breathing.
What do you do when you hit a fitness rut?
Today was a deli breakfast kind of day. That translates to: I got up late and left the house before a sensible breakfast could be prepared. Was this sensible? No. Was it total comfort food? Absolutely.
