Never eat more than you can lift.

– Miss Piggy

I have a question for you.  I’ve upped my exercise significantly lately; I’m logging about 10-12 hours a week in fitness time between my new mission to test out P90X and keeping up with my regularly scheduled yoga, running, and spin activities.  The question is, have any of you ever used a recovery drink?  I’ve been considering either giving either Endurox R4 a shot or just going with plain ole chocolate milk.

The idea behind recovery drinks is that after intense exercise your body is just sort of crying out for nutrients and is at an optimal state to receive them, while also needing a a mixture of carbs and protein to restore glycogen stores and muscle mass accordingly.

I’m sort of on the fence about this stuff, while I tend to think I know a thing or two about nutrition, I’m not so sure about exercise physiology and I like to think I can get everything I need through natural means…but I also don’t want to undermine all my hard work by not giving my body any aid I can in this process.

So, my question to ya’ll is, have you tried recovery drinks?  Have you ever wanted to?  Do you have a favorite?  Is good ole fashioned chocolate milk the way to go or are the fellas at GNC right about this fruity flavored phenom?
