Big sighs of relief.  Yesterday was spent hanging at the hospital while my mama got a barrage of tests done.  The last seven months have been really hard for all of us, and her healing process has been a long one.  I was really glad I was here for this post surgical check up, as it turns out things are healing perfectly, nothing leaky, nothing wrong–my mom got a very positive bill of health from her doctor.  So good in fact that her doctor said he could go a whole three months without another check in.

I feel like I can breathe again for the first time in a while, and like my life is finally starting to settle back into a pattern that allows me to relax and enjoy the ride a little.  I can’t have asked for a better outcome from this little visit home to see my parents.

Of course, post doctors visit, my mom looked at me with sad eyes and said “Does this mean you won’t visit as often?”  Ha, probably not, I told her she probably has a full year of neurosis left from me.

Another great part about being home is diner visits with friends.  I was once on a date when a guy asked me what type of food reminded me of home, he was from New Orleans and said jambalaya was his idea of nostalgic eats.  I said diner food.  I don’t know if it’s like this anywhere else, but certainly on Long Island, my friends and I would always end up at a diner growing up–sitting in a a restaurant with quasi inedible food, all I can drink coffee, and a plethora of neon lights with my closest friends never ceases to make me feel at ease.

Needless to say, it’s been a very comforting couple of days.
