This week is my first week back to making fitness a major player in my life again. It used to be so easy to prioritize it, now it actually takes some effort. There’s the hem and haw of my guilt riddled conversations back and forth in my mind. The compromising that I’ll get up an hour early. The putting it off till bed time. The eating dinner, then having to wait then being too tired
I recognize that I’m being crazy. I know that working out is something I actually enjoy, and if I spent as much time doing it as I spend convincing myself to do it, I would possibly no longer be burdened with the responsibility of paying rent because I could just take up residence in the walls of the YMCA (which coincidentally is also a retired seamans home, seriously, you can’t make this sort of thing up).
What is the mental block to working out then?
Maybe it’s a fear of commitment. I’ve been known to have one of those. This time, perhaps it’s more to do with the commitment to put myself first. It seems almost selfish that hour a day to spend on no one else but myself, not working for any other reason than to increase the altitude of my ass.
Man, those endorphins are real though, this week, those few hours I’ve spent running, lifting, spinning, ellipticizing have been the only ones were I felt like I could stop the wheels in my head from turning, which they have been doing in overdrive lately. In a word, I need it. I avoid it like the plague, but I need it.
Maybe one day it will be second nature again, but for now it’s a battle. Tonight my fight is with an exercise video.
I didn’t have the energy to blog yesterday, so tonight is a doubleheader of food.
The best smoothie I have ever made
Soy milk, frozen banana, cherries and mango with vanilla protein powder
As far as I’m concerned smoothie’s are a perfect excuse to drink a milkshake for breakfast
Big shocker: chickpea and eggplant stew
Coconut cream pie Larabar
Stir fry with Tofu, string beans, mushrooms and carrots in a teriyaki sauce
Egg white omelet with mushrooms, tomato, and light Cheddar
Whole grain bread
Yup still eating that chickpea and eggplant stew
1/2 whole wheat pita
It’s that steak time of the month
Steamed potatoes tossed with olive oil and thyme
Salad w/red wine and vinegar
