I want steak and I want candy.

I just needed to get that off my chest.  Like clock work, a week before Aunt Flo visits, up until the time she moves in and makes herself comfortable, there are two things that I crave like whoa; candy and chocolate.  Biologically it all makes sense: due to a dip in hormone levels our glycogen levels dip causing sugar cravings.  The steak cravings come from the fact that I border on iron deficient as things already stand, so right around this time every month my body is gearing up to rid itself of what few iron reserves it already has.  Scientifically being able to justify the reason behind my cravings doesn’t make it any easier to resist them.  I broke down today and had candy.  I needed it.

Speaking of cravings; the more I read about them, the more “the experts” think that they’re bunk.  I say the experts are bunk.  I am a firm believer that our bodies are are much more advanced and wondrous than science has figured out quite yet.  I think that although sometimes our inner cues can get screwed up, deep down our bodies know what they need.

Okay, fine, I’m validating myself.  That doesn’t make it any less true.

And now for an aside:
